Sun Tough Water Tanks
How does our harsh desert sun affect the lifespan of typical poly water tanks? Most other water tanks you can buy on the market are crafted from a type of plastic that is vulnerable to sun (UV) damage. When exposed to direct or indirect sunlight, these tanks may experience surface chalking as the polymers undergo oxidation. Over time, this exposure can lead to degradation, making the material brittle and prone to cracking. Additionally, UV light can accelerate color fading.
Fortunately, advancements in tank manufacturing have led to the inclusion of UV stabilisers in the production of poly storage tanks, such as rainwater tanks. All of our Rainwater Harvesting and Poly water tanks are crafted from a superior material that withstands full desert sun for decades. These stabilisers are added during the moulding process of polyethylene, helping to protect the integrity of the tank.

UV Absorbers
These substances absorb harmful UV light, converting it into heat and evenly dispersing it throughout the tank. Common chemical compounds like benzophenones, benzotriazoles, and hydroxyphenyl triazines are effective UV absorbers.
(HALS)
Hindered Amine Light Stabilizers (HALS). Unlike UV absorbers, HALS do not absorb UV radiation directly. Instead, they work by inhibiting degradation, targeting free radicals that can lead to oxidation.
Exterior

Interior
The black interior is designed to be safe for drinking and to prevent light from reaching the water column. This ensures that even in bright, direct sun conditions your tank will remain algae free.

When you choose a UV-stabilised poly tank, you can be assured of its durability in sunny conditions. One way to identify whether a tank is UV stabilised is by its finish: a glossy tank typically indicates UV stabilization, whereas a matte finish may mean it lacks this protection.
